Combat Infantryman Badge

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Combat_Infantryman_BadgeYou don't find one of these everyday. I found this yesterday cherry picking at one of my permission fields. I joined the Infantry when I turned 19 for three years, but was never in combat. Almost tossed it thinking it was a piece of car trim! I never toss till I'm sure though. It was bent in half when I found it. Looks like the wreath is missing, but I did see one online with no wreath. It was originally painted around the musket. It looks pretty old, maybe WW2 era? It came from an old school site. Nothing but a field now and a lot of bricks. They said online there is a way to determine the age by the posts on the back. I've got to read more about how. They didn't give these away. Enjoy the pics. Best of luck to all! 015.webp016.webp023.webp022.webp 019.webp020.webp021.webp

That could be an expert infantryman's badge. It doesn't look like there's any damage from where the wreath broke off

Yes, it is an EIB and not a combat infantryman badge - CIB.

Combat Infantryman Badge - Eligibility requirements

The Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB) is the U.S. Army combat service recognition decoration awarded to soldiers ? enlisted men and officers (commissioned and warrant) holding colonel rank or below, who personally fought in active ground combat while an assigned member of either an infantry or a Special Forces unit, of brigade size or smaller, any time after 6 December 1941. The CIB and its non-combat analogue, the infantry skill-recognition Expert Infantryman Badge (EIB) were simultaneously created during World War II as primary recognition of the combat service and sacrifices of the infantrymen who would likely be wounded or killed in numbers disproportionate to those of soldiers from the Army's other service branches.

Congrats on your find & wish you many more.

Great military find.

I've never seen a silver EIB before, very nice find! The difference between the EIB and the CIB is that the CIB has a wreath around it.

Great research. I was going towards EIB.

Whether EIB or CIB, it's a magnificent find and should have a place of honor in your collection!

to get the CIB you have been in "direct combat" with the enemy -- you see shoot at them / they see shoot at you ...basically up close in your face combat ...where its kill or be killed--there are the one , two and 3 star models ..each star is a "event"..

A (E.I.B) is given to a few that can past a test on there Knowledge of all the things that they have learned in the Army. When I got mine there were 4 that received it 1 cpt. 2 Lts and me a private a E1, this was with the 82nd Airborne every one had to take this test about 2,500 people. The C.I.B. is given to any one in a combat zone
