I found this yesterday when walking an open construction site in my neighborhood in North Carolina. I have been unable to find one exactly like it online or in books.
It looks like a Fayetteville Sabre Bayonet, I only see one with a post like this that inserts into the rifle, but the guard is different. Solid brass handle, blade is pretty strong, a bit over 21 inches.
Any information would be great about the item or how to restore it. Could I send it to someone to straighten it? It's bent pretty bad. I have an electrolysis vat, the blade seems strong, but some people have recommended a microblaster.
Can anyone help me understand the rarity of the item, if it is historically significant, I would hand it over to a museum, but online I see many sabre bayonets in good condition, much less dug and hit with a plow. It has no markings visible.
