Does the bottom piece have a hole through the rounded end? It reminds me of a tool that is used for throwing pulpwood logs. Pulpwood would be cut in 4 or 5 foot lengths. The tool had a wood handle. You would drive the pointed end into one end of log, grab the other end of the log with your hand and throw the log up onto the truck.

I believe your talking about a hookaroon or otherwise known as a pickaroon. Like this.
