I found this on a site of skirmish that happened late in the war. Found this about 8" down. It's made of iron. May be civil war related or maybe farming related. I've never seen anything like it before. Any ideas ?

i dont know Matt,, the curve does not seem sharp enough for a tow hook,, looking at the end of the hook it almost looks like it steps down to a smaller diameter , interesting find and look forward to the ideas and the final ID.

Possibility but it would be a small one. It is only about 2" across. Maybe something to guide the reins on a mule ?

Could just be a portion of the towhook..... Will be interesting to see what other possibilities come up.

I googled "Confederate Iron Tiger" but no hits (other than TN) so I think we can rule it out.
