Tnet,

Let me first start my thread off by saying, it has been a rough past few days. On Friday, I got a call from my girlfriend, Stacia, at about 4 a.m. (she spent the night at her mother's house that night) and it consisted of her telling me that her father had just passed away. This bit of news was totally shocking, since he was young (57). So, over the past days, I have been trying to be at her side. She has been spending a lot of time with "his" side of the family and proceeding through the grieving process. I will deeply miss Brent for all of his good traits and kind heart.

Since she was spending time with her family, about 2.5 hours away, she told me that I could go out detecting today. I told her last night, "Stacia, I don't have to go out." But, she insisted that I get out. :) This hobby is definitely a stress reliever, so I needed to partake in it for awhile. :)

Today, Colonial Silver Zeus, Colonial Zoyboy, and I decided to head out for two new sites that we had just obtained permission to hunt. We were going to focus on one of the sites all day and give it a try. It was a beautiful day for treasure hunting and I was glad to be sweeping my coil for a little bit today. :)

About 15 minutes into the hunt, I got a solid "P" on "Penny" hit that pinpointed at 2.5". I plucked the soil out and was welcomed with a GREEN disc! I yelled over to Zeus, "Coppa!" It turned out to be a 1787 Connecticut coppa (Bust facing left)! In the picture, look closely and you will see the bust of the gentleman. :D We all commenced in the "clubbing" scene! This site was going to be GREAT! :coffee2: In this same area, I got a nice "Nickel" reading and out popped this crude-looking Colonial spoon. After this relic, I proceeded to dig TWO crotal bells in about 30 minutes! I was on a roll, baby! ;D

I was sweeping along at this new site, when I was startled with another "P" on "Penny" hit. At 3.5", I popped out this heavily corroded Two-Cent piece! This is my 3rd! Even though it ain't Colonial, I will still take it. ;D This day was turning out be a true winner. Oh, I also dug a nice ornate wilver picture frame, or part of one. :D

We ended the day with some detecting talk and headed our separate ways. :'( :D This new site was a thrill to hunt and should produce some more in the future! My mind was finally cleansed...Colonial KirkPA strikes again! :tongue3: :P :D

Keep the passion high!

Kirk :coffee2:

Sorry to hear about your loss...

I know what you mean about our hobby (obsession) being a stress reliever. Nothing like a stroll through some woods or a walk in the surf at sunrise to slow you down a bit. In this hectic world, sometimes you just have to stop and smell the coppas (or silver or gold) :)

Sorry to hear about Stacia's Dad Kirk....Way to young!!

"Stress Reliever"...Amen!! Sweet dig's :)

Looks like some decent finds. That two center looks like a cleaning would do it some good.

Kirk,
You are on a roll this year Dude. I can't wait to see your end of the year post for 08'. You guys have some awesome spots up there.
Congrats on your finds.
I'm sorry to hear of Stacia's father passing away. I lost my Dad in August as you may recall.
You are correct. Detecting sure is a stress reliever.
Take care,
MM

Nice job on the finds! That frame thing appears to be part of an antique coin purse, the kind that look like they are made of chain mail armor. I dug part of one similar last week, some one else must have dug the rest of mine along with the contents, if any.

Hi Kirk,
Sorry to hear about Stacia's Dad. The loss of a parent is something that never goes away. She will need time to deal with the grieving/missing process. Be patient with her and give her double attention for a while.
Remember she'll need something as well to soothe her mind. Does she detect? Take her out and make her feel special.
Looks like you made some great finds there you guys are a plus to the hobby of MDing.

Our prayers will be with you during this difficult time.

John

Kirk, you could make a "ghost box" like those people use to display someone's militaria; put those fine finds in it and dedicate it to Stacia's Dad's memory.

My condoloences. The gent was too young. I'm 57.5.

Nice finds you have there.... and sorry to hear about a family loss.

Guys, we will be heading out tomorrow in search of our ancient past. :D ;D

Kirk  :coffee2:

Sounds like you have a sweet girl and I know her and the family are heart broken. :'( You have been there for her and that's what is important. Congrats on the fine haul of colonial loot. Searching for history is a stress reliever for sure.
