Connecticut copper, solid silver spoon, a few nice relics.

Finally had a moment to write a post with the finds from last week end. Had a couple of nice hunts with a discovery of 2 new house sites with a good harvest of early coppers, silver and relics.

Probably my favorite relic of the week end was this solid silver tea spoon. It was bent pretty bad when I discovered it but with a help of a friend I have managed to fix it.



Here's how it looked before and its hallmarks (I'm not familiar with those)


An other good relic was 19th century skeleton key. I suspect it was used in the early 1800's Catholic church which was across the street, possibly to open sacristy.



A nice old cross. Haven't found this type before.



A few nice coppers. My favorite was this not yet ID'd Connecticut copper.

Trade and Navigation Halfpenny token 1815



Two mint 1859 Victorian Large cents

I was wondering that, as they are not British & pretty sure they are not European either, so I guess American.

Quality and variety! If the CT is 1785 that's quite a bit easier to ID than 1787.

Lol, that would be a long post. Those are some of the silver coins I have found over the lasts 4 years. French, Spanish, British and American 1450's-1850's (all from Canadian hunts) If you go to my profile to check the posts you will see the was majority of them. No. Unfortunately haven't had time to look into it.

Yes, certainly not British. I thought European at first but couldn't find anything. Maybe some silversmith's "version" of hallmarks without real meaning. The spoon is high silver content without a doubt, was the same color when I found it, very little darkening.

Looks silver.
Yes, might be an early 'imitation' mark, like you say, or just a lesser known American/Canadian.

Love that key and the religious cross are very interesting, to a new operator of a detector, would it devalue the cross to straighten the bend in it? Great job on repairing the condition of the spoon. Thanks
