--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The girls and I started out early this morning ,despite the rain and drove about 25 miles north, when we passed a fairgrounds...The girls started yelling"Mama, there is a man detecting!" We couldnt believe it as we never see anyone detecting! So I drove right up to where he had a nice hole started. I jumped out and walked right up and boy...did he look annoyed. Like "who is this nut and what stupid questions is she going to ask!" LOL... I asked him what he had and told him that I had hunted this spot earlier and was just stopping because we never see anyone else detecting. Then asked him if he was with a club and he said ,No..but I am with Treasurenet. I started laughing and said "me too!" . He reached to shake my hand then and said he was Groundfisher. Then I told him I was Gypsy and we both started laughing....
Once he figured out I wasnt some nut ( ) he told me about a city wide block in the oldest part of town that had two old houses torn down...plus it was the site of the oldest jail. Yeehaw...I said "lets go!" So I followed him over there ,in which he and Cheyenne prompty whomped me with their finds....They both pulled out wheats within minutes.,while I was busy digging tin and rusty nails. Then I found the Palmolive token and evened the score....until John pulled out an Indian...Old Indian. But I will let him tell about that.
We hunted a couple of hours ,but then the rain started coming down and the girls were hungry. We will both be back to hunt that site before they build the new bank and pave it all over. So it was a great day,I got to hunt and meet a really nice guy and hopefully can hunt with him again. Of course this is my version...hahaha...we will see what his story is!

Posting pics of someone elses finds? Now, ive heard you Aussies are a squirrely bunch of cut-throats but I think that is goin too far! I just might have to ban you from this & any future contests I hold! In fact, those are such nice buttons that if I find out who sent them to you I will put THEM into the final three just to teach you that cheaters never prosper! lol ;D

Re: CONTEST..............."PIC OF TOKEN OR BUTTON"

Here's one that has me stumped. It is a CW store card from Mossin & Marr Engravers, Milwaukee WI, dated 1863.
The problem is that these were issued in brass except there were a few struck in "white metal" as trial pieces.
I had access to a scanning electron microscope and had the material elements analyzed. It contained Lead, Zinc, Tin, and Silicon. I don't recall the exact ratio.
However, I suspect that it may be counterfeit because of the poor strike and lack of detail. ???
It was found in the Clayton County Iowa fairgrounds in a spot where several other coins from the 1860's and 70's were found.

Re: CONTEST..............."PIC OF TOKEN OR BUTTON"

This token was put out by an oil company in the 30s and 40s I think? On the front it advertises oil and on the back it tells what kind to use in your car. It's about the size of a silver dollar. I found it at the base of a tree on a vacant lot. Monty

I don't think it compares to some of these buttons, but I'll enter my Virginia Militia Button. I found it this month.

Re: CONTEST..............."PIC OF TOKEN OR BUTTON"

These are the buttons I found at the T-Net group hunt in MO. These were about 4 inches deep in some of the hardest soil I have ever dug.

Re: CONTEST..............."PIC OF TOKEN OR BUTTON"

Here's a civil war era token I found here in Michigan.
It is the size of an IH and bronze/copper I believe.

Found it in a field very near the main road and there was some apple trees there too, maybe leftover from an orchard. It was about 6 inches deep. I also dug a pocket spill of 3 Barber dimes about 50 feet away from this the same day. It was a good day!

This land was part of the horse riding stable I used to hunt back in the 1980's.

Thanks Mighty Man, cool contest per usual. You rock buddy!

Smiles!
BDoo
