Continuing the CW finds with a Lead UFO Sighting

Happy 2017 everyone! Beginning of January and in the 60's!!! Got to get digging! Went to the local Civil War camp/battle site again. Found some easy to ID items: 2 roundballs, small grommet, 8 tent grommets, flat button and a brass ring. Of course the inevitable UFO will pop up. Scratching my head on this one. It's lead and weighs 1126.56 grains. Oval in shape - 1.06 in wide x 1.3360 long x 0.6510 inches tall. Kinda looks like a lead cap of some sort. Any ideas out there? Good luck everyone in 2017!

I have several of those and all old lead is a good find. Maybe it is a roofing nail head cover others have told me.

Cover to a roofing nail doesn't work for mine. The top is too large. Not a nipple cover, inside is incorrect.

I don't think it's a roofing nail. I've found several of those before. Here is a picture with some lead-topped roofing nails for comparison. What I found yesterday is much much larger. It would fit on a railroad spike!

About the same size as mine. Methinks it might possible be a replacement cap to a powder flask. The bent up pieces might have been little side straps. Being made of lead, it would not cause a spark and a subsequent boom. Would slip on after the original one was lost. Just a thought.
