I haven't found anything spectacular lately, and have been out a little less due to a lack of good places to metal detect. Anyways, I decided to try a new place today. According to maps, there was a farm there in the 1800's, but I hoped there may be some colonial activity too. The place is just woods with stonewalls now. I was there for a few hours and found loads of shotgun shells, bullets and a musketball. I was somewhat disappointed by my lack of good finds. I was metal detecting around the site and was able to recover this interesting relic. An aluminum lucky penny advertising piece (missing the penny), from around 1911-1920 based on my research. I searched everywhere with my metal detector for the penny but could not find it. The company that gave away these lucky pennies produced fish and fruit, and sold them in Boston for a short time in the first quarter of the 20th century. I am very satisfied with this very interesting relic, and hope to find more places to metal detect soon! I can not find another one to compare it with except in a numismatics book from 1926 I found online.
Photos are before and after cleaning.

Very nice find,,
A penny in 1920 would buy a couple pieces of candy.
I suspect that the penny went towards the purchase of sweets. lol
Congrats

Congrats

I am guessing it probably did! When I found it, it was bent and a slight angle, suspiciously like someone bent it to remove the penny. I removed the bend by placing it in a towel, and applying some force on it with an exercise weight. Very risky but it came out perfect, you can't even tell it was ever bent. I was then able to put an earlier wheat penny in it, which is firmly in place. It may be a good idea to take it with me next time I metal detect, for some luck :blackbeard:. I will post if I find anything else!

That's an interesting find........hate to admit this, but I never saw anything like it. Nice job in cleaning, repairing and marrying up a coin with the holder (as intended).
