I knew I found a copper ring but had no idea what kind or how old. Grok AI says it is a "Afghan tribal gazelle aqeeq ring" probably from mid-20th century. Can't read the Arabic on the face either.

That's awesome!!

Is the stone amber??
I don't think so. From Grok AI:
The stone in your ring is carnelian (also called carnelian agate or simply aqeeq in Islamic contexts).
It's a reddish-brown to deep orange-red variety of chalcedony (a form of quartz), prized for its warm, translucent glow and durability in engraved signet rings. In Muslim tradition, especially among Sunni and Shia communities, carnelian aqeeq is the most common and favored type for devotional pieces like yours—often sourced from Yemen (Yemeni red aqeeq is famous for its rich color), India, or Central Asia/Afghanistan regions. The Prophet Muhammad is reported in hadiths to have worn an aqeeq ring (typically carnelian), which boosts its spiritual status for protection and blessings.
Your stone's color—brownish-red with that semi-translucent quality—matches classic carnelian perfectly. It's not banded (which would make it plain red agate); carnelian is usually solid or subtly varied without obvious layers, and it's often heat-treated naturally or enhanced for that vibrant hue. The oval cabochon shape, smooth polish, and fine intaglio engraving (Ayat al-Kursi in reverse for potential sealing) are textbook for these rings.

Congratulations on a unique find!
