🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Copper Tag

I found this tag at an 1890’s house in Gainesville, TX. It appears to say “SM Co” in script writing. Across the bottom it says “PATENTED JAN 13 85” and it has a hole at the top. It’s made of thin copper or brass. Can anyone give me more info about this tag?

Sanford acquired the rights to Redington & Freeman’s ‘bottle cover’ patent. The stopper would be removed from the ink bottle and replaced with the sliding cover. Sanford marketed it as part of their ‘Universal Ink Stand’ and, in advertising, claimed it to be the only practical stand with a permanent cover that met the demand for a five or ten cent ink.
