Other than digging holes in my back yard and getting acquainted with my with my new MD.Today was my first real day out. I hunted a shut down fire house in my Township. The first hit was a cast metal RR box car that was about 2" long with wheels still in tack. The second hit about 8" down was a solid copper Zippo Lighter.Every thing works but the Striker wheel. Also a lot of soda cans and a few coins from the 90's.All said I think I am getting the hang of things from reading and forums like this.Tony

Love to see a pick. Many older lighter were plated. I think the plating came off due to use and soil conditions.

Sounds like you had a blast. Try to post pics. Congrats and welcome to your new addiction!

I sprayed a little WD40 on the striker put in a new flint and it works. That Zippo was about 7-8" down.I don't think a Bic would hold up to that.

If you sent that Zippo to the factory in Bradford Pa they will repair it for free.
