Hit a local cornfield a few times this week, it wasn't planted this year and the man who rents the house said " no problem searching the field". The crotal bell is different from the kind we usually find, never saw one like this. Anyone have info about this type. Seems to be cast bronze. I was told the house and farm is only 100 years old, the oldest coin found there is the 1891 seated dime, looks like this dime got hit by the farm equipment. Lots of crushed soda cans, all 6" deep. The weeds are quite tall now, might go back in the fall. Happy hunting to all.

I gotta start hitting cornfields,

really nice finds! I think I'd hit that again!

Is that a Large Cent or colonial copper in the top picture. Kinda looks like one. Nice!

I started searching cornfields only this year. The type of stuff found can be terrific but you're gonna do a lot of walking and digging shot gun shells, small copper and brass junk, pieces of copper wire, iron washers, etc, etc. But then sometimes you get an old coin and suddenly all the effort was worth it. In another cornfield the only coins I found was one King Edward penny, two King George I pennies, two King George II pennies and a 1800's U.S silver coin, all the rest was junk. Went there about 10 times all over that field hoping for more goodies but no more was found. The copper disk looks like a large penny but has no detail so not sure what it is.

You can't just not investigate that copper...too many of us here to just let that slide!
So get your peroxide on and get with it! :icon_thumright:

Nice finds!! :icon_thumright: I think your copper might be a Hibernia copper and the bell looks to be possibly a sleigh bell. Good job on all that silver too!

Wish I could find a cornfield to hunt. Maybe someday in NY state. Great finds!

Corn & Bean fields are the best. Me & my hunting partner have made our best finds in fields. You have some nice coins there.
