Cornfield gives me not 1 but 2 1800's coins

Hi all. If you've been reading my posts this week, you know I skipped the 1800's and got a 1700's KGII. I went back this afternoon for about 2 1/2 hours. As you can see from the pics, I got 2 LC's. Apparently this field is not good for large coppers. If anyone can advise on cleaning, I will be very grateful. Both coins were very good signals as they were only a couple inches down. At least now I can be happy with my first year's finds. Coins from 1700's, 1800's, 1900's and 2000's make me excited. Thanks for looking.

Those LCs are pretty crunchie, cleaning wouldn't make them any better really , they're good finds though, but you're not going to be able to turn back the clock or condition any real amount on those.

Awesome finds. Are they too toasted to get dates?:dontknow:

It's hard to say. I have been tooth picking them and soaking in lemon juice. The one has such a thick shell of green patina, I may be able to get a date from. The other, I see 18??. Time will tell. Anyone ever tried a Dremel with the soft polishing tool?
I will post pics after I work on them some more. Thanks for looking.

Well it seems they are toasted, lol. Here is a pic after quick cleaning and a negative just in case someone can make out something I can't.

Id stop there, take it from me, I trashed any chance of recognizing my oldest LC, all I know is its a draped bust because the silhouette is facing the opposite direction of yours, but I did the olive oil and toothpick thing and now all I got is a black disk with a VERY FAINT silhouette. Theyre a little far gone but still cool none the less. Nice finds!!

Well one thing is for sure they are LC's. Been a long time for me since I had that pleasure. Congrats again my friend.:icon_thumleft:

Thanks. It's a thrill to turn the plug over and see a big green coin, isn't it?

Yep, it never gets old.
It's sad, but on average about half of coppers that old are going to look like that. Some manage to survive, and that is what makes it worth it. And why every one is exciting, what type, what date, what condition etc.

Great finds Dude....

It's always a rush to turn the dirt and to see a thick piece of green disk, and a bit of a let down seeing the effects of the fields soils doing the spoils on the coinage. Then once in a while one seems to escape the harshness as it comes up looking fresh and better, and that makes it a keeper.

Ever since I started detecting I have been blown away by how many old coins are in the ground. Rick and I have had an epic year to say the least but we still get excited to find even a trashed crusty copper in the plug, it never gets old.
Happy hunting, I know you will soon be in the 1600's.:icon_thumright:

Congrats on the 2 LC's ! I only have 1, can't read the date on it either unless I use wishful thinking! I just keep it in olive oil, I'm afraid it will totally disappear if I leave it out! Isn't it awesome when you first see the totally green disk and you just know it's a large cent, and you wonder who the person was who held it last? HH!

USUALLY ITS THE FERTILIZERS THEY USE - STILL BETTER THAN NO COPPERS AT ALL :icon_thumleft:

Still a great find in my book no matter how toasty she might be. Very exciting to think it would have just been lost forever, nice save!

I'm still waiting for my first 1800s coin, Closest I got was 1904.

I believe this is as good as I am going to get from either coin. I did a little electrolysis tonight on both and I think I see 181? on one and only the silhouette on the other coin. Didn't think it even deserved posting a pic, lol. See what you guys see, please.
