All Treasure Hunting
We continued the hunt for more roman coins but only got 15 in 4 hours (8 man hours). Sometimes, finding not many is a good thing, as we now know the limits of the site. Anyway in an area which had nothing, Dad came up smelling of roses. He got our second Celtic Silver Unit for this year.

Its not in Van Arsdell book which immediately tells you its rare. Some describe it as Extremely Rare, but in reality it's Very Rare :headbang:

Dias - 15BC-10AD 'Saltire' Silver Unit - pretty valuable in this condition.

15 roman coins
Poor Hammered Silver - Lizzy Halfgroat
Roman Bronze Child's Bracelet
bits.......

We are on fire right now, & the good news is this field is the first to be harvested in our area, some time next week :icon_thumright: Guess where I'm spending my holiday.

Crusader.. I have a question for you..

How deep are you guys finding these really old coins? i am curious because my dad also has a Cortes. and he loves it but gets discouraged when i get a deep target signal on my E-trac and he cant pick it up..

He is using the stock coil. do you guys have a bigger coil on there? and if so what kind?. he wants more depth. i was thinking of the 12x10 coil for him. but just wondering how you guys are doing it over the big pond..

And freaking congrats!! man i cant even fatham digging up a 2000 year old coin.. hell i cant even dig up a 200 year old coin.. Guess that's all of our punishment for living in America.. LOL no good history here!!

Thanks

We are on ploughed land & these coins are often found in the top 3 inches. Depth is not so important with our style of hunting. Although my XP goes a bit deeper & is far more Sensitive, meaning that I get 70% of our finds. We have the 12x10 coil which will give you more depth on the Cortes, we use it on grass land where we need it.

Re: Cortes Fights Back - 2000 Year Old Coin!!

Only 15 Roman coins, eh? I can hardly even find dirt where I live.

Re: Cortes Fights Back - 2000 Year Old Coin!!

SWEET coin!!!!!!!

Heck, I'd settle for finding one of those Roman scrappies.

Problems is, how could you ever go back to the US once you have had a hand full of ancients :hello:

Hi,
It was just an observation, of the slowing down of Romans. If you saw the last one we got 20 romans in 1.5 hours. When the harvest is in we will find 200ish (I predict).
The Celtic Unit of course is a find of a lifetime in this condition :icon_thumright:

UPDATED:

:read2: Having done some research, this coin is 1 of 30 recorded examples :icon_thumright:

Cru DAD Banner coin :icon_king:

That's a neat 2000 year old silver coin. Appear to be high silver content coin.

1 of 30 and most likely one of the best examples :hello2:

Thanks, it does seem to be one of the best ones so far, only improvement would be a more centred example.

Cru.

Whats next for the coin? do you have to turn it in? or ?? not sure how it works over in the UK? what about the value? 1 of 30 is pretty damn rare...

As its only a single Silver coin, we get to keep it (under the terms of the Act), depending on the agreement we have with the farmer. He has already seen it & is happy for us to have it ;D

Chiming in a bit late on this one. Beautiful coin!
