Looks like an end cap for something, ceiling light...just guessing.

Looks like the screw in end to one of those old 6-in-1 hammer and screwdriver combination tools.

is it threaded? possibly the top cap to a yard light?

Kinda looks like the top bail nut on a Coleman lantern ??...It's a finger tightening nut for something?

It looks like some type of finial, and the narrow portion on the bottom would "push-fit" tightly into the receiving end.

The end finials to curtain rods are a good example of this type of finials because they can be easily removed to load the curtain, then simply pushed back onto the rod. Since your finial is decorative, it could have been used on an antique curtain rod.

Breezie may be on to it. Like on small diameter brass curtain rods. I looked up tompians earlier but no match.
