Could this be a Spanish conquistador lance (or part of one?)

My first post on here with pics, so I hope I don't mess it up royally. Found this in a ravine in coastal California. Initially assumed it was a 19th century iron fence post-- but standing it up it doesn't even reach my knee cap. Then I saw a pic of a conquistador lance ferrule found in context of the Coronado expedition in the southwest-- and it had a familiar resemblance (though not identical) to this piece.

Anybody here have thoughts from the pics? Much thanks!

If no one gets back to you, try posting it in the What's it forum just above this one.

It does look like a Lance. I can see where it might be a fence post too.. how heavy is it?

pretty heavy actually-- i assume it is solid iron

Yeah, that would have been the better forum...still learning to navigate the site. ha ha

Not a problem! I am e-challenged and so far can't post pics! Lol! People are trying to help me, but I'm afraid I may wipe out something trying!

The easiest way for me to post pics is from Iphone.

Doesn't look like it would be functional as a lance. You know I've been in some old cemetaries and they had fences around individual graves with decorative posts not much over 3 feet long. That point on your item might also be an anchor, intended to be stuck in the ground. Cool find, hope you get it ID'd.

Yeah, I can't rule out-- like what you said-- a small decorative post to line something low to the ground. Still though, this piece is only about 12 inches long so it doesn't seem like it would even be visible as something that stands or is stuck in the ground. But some kind of very strong anchor post---- I do have to mull that possibility over.
