Couldn't Stand It....Needed a Hit!

Thought this weekend was going to be a wash, freezing rain and the sleet, thank God mother nature missed us with the snow. The temp was right around 37 and the wind's were right around 40mph at time's....Still I had to find something, local H.S. was the ticket.Couple hour's later I ended up with almost $7.00 in clad and the smallest marble I've seen,11.5 mm and a Cowboy pin.Hey at this point,I'll take anything as long as I'm able to still get out.....Thank's for wasting your time ;D

Believe me... I understand :) You'll see me, the moron out on the beach in the north east in February freezing his butt off on the off chance that there's some gold (but, mostly, to get his "fix" : ))

Re: Couldn't Stand It....Needed a Hit!

Really nice clad count and a marble to boot. Love me some marbles! I lost some of mine ::) ::) ::)

Congrats,
Moon

Move South. The sun was so bright here in Texas I had to put on my shades and shed the long sleeve shirt! Managed to find some silver as well!

That's cold TX :) (no smiley for brrrrr) ... dang winter, and it's just begun.

Glad you got out CM and picked up some goodies. Thanks for sharing your frigid adventure!

I'd go bonkers if I couldn't MD all year long. I don't know how you guys stand the winters up North. My hats off to the ones that brave the cold and still find the gold. Hey that rhymes!

Re: Couldn't Stand It....Needed a Hit!

Cold is no reason to avoid "gettin' your fix" anymore.. unless it's turned the ground to frozen concrete that is. Many years ago I was introduced to these wonderful little ingenious "pocket warmers" that you simply open up to the air and through a chemical reaction they warm your pockets.. and hands or feet.
Now these things come in several different brands but they all work pretty much the same, but more importantly they WORK!. I've been waiting till it was cold out this year to try them while metal detecting as well as other outdoor activities that I've enjoyed this time of year, sporting events, hunting, hiking, even yard work (yeah.. enjoyed that). Just open up a packet and shake it in the air a bit, like an old polaroid picture, then tuck it into your pocket.. or in your glove. The directions say that if it cools down to simply shake it some more in the air. <shrug> I usually cary a couple of spares.. one in each jacket pocket, one for each hand. Check'em out gang.. if you absolutely have to have the mid winter's MD'g fix, dress appropriately for the weather and don't forget your "Hot Hands" (or whatever brand you get). Your fingers will thank you.

Nice job Civil. I like to hit the playgrounds too once in awhile to take a break from hunting relics and old coins. A lot more gold on the playgrounds a sports fields. ;)

If you are going to MD in cold weather you must get a set of long undies plus the tops by Ullfrotte. They aren't cheap but they work. In fact they are so warm you won't need a coat unless it goes below 10 degrees F outside. I loaned a set to a friend in VA who went deer hunting and he didn't believe that all you needed were the insulated top/bottom and just regular hunting clothes (no jacket). He called me to let me know that he had to shed that jacket along with a few extra pieces.

You can't find it everywhere and the best place to look is on the net....Ullfrotte.

Yep..sometimes when you gotta go...you just gotta go. ;) :D And you did good! Bunch'a change AND a marble! 8)

Re: Couldn't Stand It....Needed a Hit!

I admire your fortitude going out in those conditions! Too much snow on the ground here in Colorado, and boy do I need an MD fix. But you've showed us it CAN be done. And $7 is two gallons of gas and a candy bar!

Re: Couldn't Stand It....Needed a Hit!

$7 in Texas is 1.5 gallons of diesel and no candy bar >:( , but hey the weather is nice ;D

Re: Couldn't Stand It....Needed a Hit!

$7.00 is enough for me to make it to work......ONE WAY!!!!
