Couldnt wait for first sluice....???

so i bought my first sluice ...30 inch EZ sluice but couldnt wait for it to get here so i fashioned my own and went out for the first time today. Built it from wood and some riffled carpet and Worked a nice creek i thought would have some flour gold in it and did get some black sand but nothing but very microscopic gold and a LOT of what appears to be smashed gemstones? any help from Indiana prospectors ? i found a lot of rusty spots on an old eroded side of the creek where bedrock was exposed and worked them figuring it was iron ...any suggestions?
