Had a quick hunt this morning out on Eastern LI. I didn't have the energy to go the the spot I wanted out on an island, but I did hit another spot I had in my back pocket.

I didn't have a signal for about 2 hrs. I followed my game plan and upon nearing the actual home location I had a penny signal. Out popped a KG1 ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1463324237.371413.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1463324249.675626.webpi think it's been counter-stamped?

Nearby I found buckle guts

ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1463324336.666127.webpand about an hour later out popped a shoe buckle frame.

ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1463324352.553880.webpIn the root cellar I found a barber dime. I thought it was going to be older so I snapped a picImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1463324375.418203.webp

Finally some more gutsImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1463324396.875911.webp

I hunted from 6:30-10, and now it's time to go find some oysters at low tide.

Enjoy your day folks

All good finds, although I'm not 100% behind the counterstamp, doesn't look right......

Thanks. And yes, I'm with you on the counter stamp although I've seen some strange ones. I put it in the title to get some knowledgable people's eyes on it.

Awesome hunt Scrappy! That's a good looking KG and love those buckle guts and frame. Post us the oysters you find. I got an oyster crab in one I was eating on Friday... He was alive and didn't like being flipped on his back!

Nice buckles/frame, and always good to have a silver in the mix.

You kill it Bud!!! And you've made me hungry so I'm going to eat.[emoji106]

Nice finds Scrappy. Id love to find a large shoe buckle like that. All the ones i dig here are tiny.

That KG1 is sure nice. Unlikely to find out here ORYGUN, but nice to see others find 'em!

I don't know which half of the morning I like better!

Meant to tell ya, I have this copper that is farthing sized and appears stamped. Could never get an ID on it as its slick as they come, but it definitely looks like its got a few letters punched into it. At least yours is IDable. haha

Edit: I'm sure you will "see" something in this copper that everyone else cant. For my sake, I hope you're not feeling artistic today. :laughing7:

Nice digs man, throw those oysters on the grill until they open and put a drop of bbq sauce in them, you won't regret it! I picked a few the other day and fried them up for an oyster roll, yum!

Congrats on another successful hunt Steve. Love to see the old coppers you dig. The Barber is more likely a coin for me to find here in Ohio. I also like the buckle pieces.

But the '3' & 'IM' counterstamps are more IDable on yours.

Humm.. I don't know much about these, but I wonder if Steve's is maybe a planchet lamination error where a piece pulled off. I say that, because I just flipped mine over and on the back it has marks where the counterstamp punch pushed the metal flat (circled them in red). On Steve's KG it doesn't look deformed on the back. Whether Steve's is a counterstamp or some minting error, its still a sweet KG.

Nice early copper my friend! I'm also a big fan of anything to do with shoe buckles so I'm loving the parts and pieces. Those KG1's are a very tough find in my neck of the woods. Guessing it's the same in most places. Hope you get some nice long hunts real soon buddy

Thx J. I was hoping for a capped so it was bittersweet. But I'll take it lol

The oysters are all scrubbed down now, and ready for tomorrow on the half shell.
