The two guns were found on the waters edge and show considerable deterioration from years of being in the water. They are not much to look at but still a pleasurable find. The large 6 shot I am told is from the early 1930's the smaller gun I know nothing about. The smaller gun barrel is rusted through. If anyone can provide any information on the guns it would be great. I found the large gun using a Fisher CZ-6 and the small gun using the Explorer. Jim

The larger gun is either a Smith and Wesson or a Colt.? I am leaning toward Colt, but it's hard to tell without having them in hand to examine.? ?The smaller gun is a cheap copy of a Smith and Wesson top break revolver. There were millions of them made and it would date from the same time as the other gun, perhaps a bit earlier?? I have one hanging on my wall as a decoration, wouldn't try to fire it on a bet! Let me see if I can get a pic of it and post it for you.? Very interestingn finds, really make you wonder if it was used in a crime and dumped or just lost don't it?? Monty
Not the best pic but you can tell the similarity.

I believe the top gun is a S&W K-frame Model 10 probably chambered for the .38 Special. It was also known as the .38 M&P Hand Ejector. Here's a pic of a WWII Victory model-basically the same although yours looks like the hammer was bobbed, possibly to make easier to draw without getting snagged in coat.

The 2 main differences between a S&W and Colt is the cylinder latch. S&W's is concave and knurled so as to push forward while Colt's has a slight ridge that's checkered and pulled rearward. The other is that S&W's cylinder rotates counterclockwise while Colt's turns clockwise.

There were a lot of the bottom ones made by different manufactures-S&W, Colt, Iver Johnson. I can't tell what the emblem on the left side really looks like. Most were chambered for either .32 S&W Short or Long or the .38 S&W Short or Long. From your pic. it looks like the barrel just in front of the frame may have ruptured-can;t tell for sure. It is also the Hammerless variety.

Awesome finds Hunter!

;)

The gun information is super plus you posted the pictures for comparison. I want to thank you for doing that. I had no idea what they were nor what they looked like. The history lesson on the guns was also very informational. Again I just wanted to thank you Stoney and Monty for taking the time to post the information.. PS Pictures are great.
Jim

Those are some awesome finds!! Does the second one have some type of seal on it or something? maybe you can make out writing, they had to have writing somewhere :)

Oops Monty may be right of the 1st one-I just got a better glimpse of the cylinder locks. They do rotate clockwise. Sorry.

That small gun has a target with some holes in it. That is what the square is on the handle. It is a square target with rings. It has some bullet holes in the rings. Does this help? Thanks Jim

Boy!!! I'd have to agree with Stoney about that bottom one having a barrel breach ..
It certainly looks like it gave 'someone' a pretty good surprize.. Nice guns.. I'd soak em in some urathane to seal them up, and then display them.. Good conversation pieces..

Hey son-of-a-gun.. I registered here a year ago today.. this is the longest I've ever stuck with any system...

could be a red rider bb gun, dont shoot ur eye out with it, those are very nice finds, rivers and lake are the best places to gun hunt, when the water table is low,

Once again thank you all for all your information on the guns. I have a few more unidentified items that I will post for you all to comment on. Again, thanks for the info. Jim

Very Interesting Finds, If They could Talk I Wonder What Story They Could Tell. trk5capt... ???

WOW! Nice relics! They would be great in a windowbox picture frame. Don't forget to put trigger locks on them so Handgun Control Inc. and Sarah Brady will be happy. LOL
