I got out this past Sunday to hunt a place we hunted a couple weeks back to give it another pounding. It's a WW1/WW2 dump site out in the desert, it looks to have been burned somewhere and dumped here and spread out. Just under the surface is powdered ash, some things look burnt, others don't. It's littered with every type of metal you can think of, copper, alum, brass, lead and iron everywhere. I was running the Equinox in park 1, using the 6" coil, recovery speed 6, sens 18, 0 disc, 0 iron bias, 2 tones with my tone break at 17 and ground balance at 0
I decided to go over the same area that me and another guy had hit previously only from a different direction, 🙂 man we both suck lol, it was like we never hunted it before. I spent close to 9 hours going slowly thru all the crap, I was amazed at how much we had missed !! I finally had to call it a day when it hit 104 😓
As you can see, it pays to hit a spot from different directions multiple times. My favorite finds are the large rosettes, the 2 WW1 dog tags, the heart rosette and the collar buttons.

Dan, those are some amazing military finds. I cant believe all of the buttons and other memorabilia that you guys find at your sites. It has to be a thrill to continually pull those buttons and other items out of the ground. The WW1 tags are a very nice find.

Great site Dan. Some very cool finds and history saved. Congrats!

Thank you, it is crazy how much stuff was throw away and still available to be found. The buttons are fun to find, but, the rosettes and other "stuff" are a real treat to recover.

Awesome site...I've got one similar to that. Have brought out clost to 150 buttons from WWI and WWII. No dogtags though...yet.

That would be the best spot to hunt I could imagine wow there's gotta be tons of cool stuff. Are you going to try to locate the tag owners family just curious
no right or wrong in my eyes would be cool to do some research. Hope you find lots more. Well done. Tommy

That's an insane site to have to go metal detect! Love the large eagles and the US buttons

Any thought about returning the service tags to the next of kin?
Don...

I will begin the process, I just finished cleaning everything up yesterday. I'll start on Facebook and work my way from there.

Man that is a great haul of WWI relics. The rosettes and dog tags are cool, but so are the collar disks.

pretty darn awesome! You have such a wonderful site to hunt for old military relics. good luck on the possible returns.:headbang:

Nice haul. Congrats

Nice recoveries, Dan. A ton of nice buttons.
