Was at Fred Howard state park, by Dunedin, Fl. first of March. Went to beach and was detecting, and looked up and ther must have been 200 holes in the sand. Brother came over to get me and show me the guy that was in the water detecting. He had seen him at a lot of spots in the area. I wish I could of gotten to him. It was disgusting the mess he left.

A few weeks ago at the beach, I saw a guy digging holes leaving them and throwing the trash back down on the ground. I tried to say something not being an azz.

The guys says to me don't worry about it, I am here on vacation and I won't be back so why should I worry about it. I told him why and he was still an azz, so I let it go.

Guys like this ruin our sport, it's too bad, plus he didn't know what he was doing anyway, swinging the detector 90mph and three feet off the ground, so why was he bothering.

This is an ongoing problem. It would be a lot simpler if everyone filled their holes but some forget or don't care. We just have to keep reminding people that they need to cover their holes.

The last few months at cocoa beach i have seen 6 foot deep holes that the spring breakers and kids have dug and left.

FB, I don't think I could have been as polite as you were about his reply. I am afraid my bad side would have surfaced, after all it is my home he is screwing up by his actions and acknowledged he didn't care.

I think its a good idea, hard to enforce but a good idea none the less. I would be more then happy to back something like this as long as it leads to less restrictions on our hunting the beaches and parks.

When I chew the fat with beach goers,(which is quite often) I ALWAYS casually bring up the fact that i remove the trash that I dig up. I use the visual aid thing. I show them my trash pouch.

I then tell them that most of the folks that I know that use detectors do the same. The comments I get are always the same. "Good for you".
When I first started detecting I would pick up trash lying on the surface (cans, bottles, etc.) but it was a bit inconvenient carrying a large garbage bag around.

My motto now is "If I dig it I keep it" to be disposed of later.
Filling the holes is not done unless its deeper then four inches.

I once complained to a beach patrol cop that some "person" was digging a hole deeper the he was tall. The cop said it was not against the law. Go figure!

The last time I was there, I had a park ranger pull up next to me to remind me to fill my holes. I told her that I always do. About 50 feet down the beach there was a hole about 3 feet deep left by some kid building sandcastles. What a joke.

The slobs that leave their holes for others to see only bring pressure on the rest of us to get off the beach or out of the park. It's the same for hunters that see the stop signs with bullet holes in them only the public doesn't care who did it, they group us all together.

What we need instead of a fine is a cash bounty on slobs leaving holes.

The State could charge me $25 a year for a permit to hunt the beaches, I would gladly pay to dig and cover all my holes, as long as "no permit, no digging period". (all holes, including sand castles)

PLUS Tied to law against all metal and glass containers......

There is a $500 dollar fine, and enforce the law for the $500 fines for anyone seen with anything but plastic drink bottles on the beaches period. No beer cans or metal cans of any kind, no soda cans, no glass bottles, no exceptons.

That law is a crock of $#!+ and will never happen. If it does folks will go some where else to spend there hard earned cash. I spend a lot of time at the beach every summer. There are thousands of holes dug and sand castles built every day at Myrtle Beach every day. 95% are never covered or torn down and the tide fills them in with one change. If you can not walk the beach with out falling in a whole or tripping on a sand castle stay at the house. Should you fill in your holes while detecting the beach? Above the tide line sure below probably. But a $500 fine that is just what we need. Who ever came up with this is just stupid.

Just what we need, more laws with fines that will never be enforced. For example, Florida has a law against littering. If they were enforcing it, the mountains of trash would not exist on the sides of the highways. Dozens and dozens of bags are collected when there is a clean up project going on. You can see the garbage daily when you drive down the roads. People are just plain pigs. No one enforces the law. Guess you have to be seen dumping your trash before you can be sited. Not enough Police Officers on the job to do that, therefore, no enforcement.
