After seeing all the killer finds posted on T-Net lately I am almost embarrased to put this stuff up, but what the heck :dontknow:

Sunday I returned to the cow pasture that holds a couple old housesites. One probably dates as early as 1820, but I have pounded that one into submission. The other is a little later, maybe 1870 to 1915. This is where I found the GAR badge last time out. This trip was not quite as productive, but I did get an 1838 Large Cent, a 1901 IH, an old railroad lock that says P & C R R on the hasp, a couple buttons and a sleigh bell. I also found the other half of a large letter W. I had found the other part on an earlier trip. It was nice day to get out and mingle with the cattle :laughing7:

P.S. I think the railroad lock is from either the Pittsburgh & Connelsville or the Pittsburgh & Cumberland Rail Road

Finding a largey would be a very good day in my book...I have yet to find one. Very photogenic cow. Mooooo. :laughing7:

A copper was dug, so the hunt was a success. :icon_thumleft: You will be digging Colonial stuff this Fall. I feel it in my bones. You should return to those tavern sites that you hunted in the 1990s. I bet there is a GW button somewhere at one of those sites. :hello2:

Steve.... I enjoy looking at your finds. You always seem to find a good variety of things. Glad to see you out hunting. BTW, that cow resembles the guy that I hunt with! Tennessee digger

We find a lot of these tags too. I always understood that number 48 would have represented a particular miner and he would put put one of these on every load of coal he sent up. At the end of the day he would be paid on how many loads were collected with a #48 tag.

Hey Steve, most people would consider that a good day of hunting Bud. That RR lock and LC are good finds. Those darn cow tags will give you a heart attack. We dig them too. When you see them in the hole and glimpse that shape, you immediately thnink "PLATE"-LOL. HH, Quindy.

Are you kidding? That large cent ROCKS!

Hey Quindy, I know what you mean about the cow tags. I have seen a lot of them dug in Virginia. But up here we find coal tags - LOL. They are about the size of a half dollar. They are everywhere in coal country.

We're having some very nice digging weather in the region, don't you think? Nice finds, nice cow!

Um, Steve..........

From where I'm standing, that don't look like no "she-cow" to me............

Looks a lot like a field full of polled Hereford steers............(beef on the hoof)

Just be thankful they're steers, and not bulls (i.e. "un-steered") 1,000 plus lbs of "I love you man" might be a bit much to handle !

Diggem'

I now see it's a Miner's tag like Nana finds in Bama Steve. Still would cause a cardiac event. I bet they read around 45 or so. HH, Quindy.

Love the lock. I found that same W this spring! Still don't know what it is.
