Hello all! I am new here and have a quick question. I ran into this on Craigslist and was wondering if it is something I should look at......Minelab SE. It is about an hour from my house but is on the way to our cottage on Seneca Lake which would not be out of the way at all. Just curious to hear what some experienced people would think. Thanks in Advance! Minelab SE Metal Detector

Never uses an SE but I just bought a safari a few months ago . Lets just say ill wont buy anything other than a minelab.

I'm an SE Owner for about 2 ? years now

as with all 3 explorers I owned over the years ,
It was painful learning (Hurt my Brain)
but they are Excellent once you do learn them.
Great & deep on silver.

as "dh" says above I wont buy anything other than a Minelab,
I was hooked since the first day out with the Sovereign.
& when it went bad, I almost retired Detecting all together.

[disclaimer: this is not a putdown on other brands,
this is a statement of how brainwashed I am by Minelab detectors performance

ROCfinder, are you interested in buying this machine or are you offering it for sale? Only charter members are allowed to sell things here.... on other parts of the forum. TTC

It appears he is interested in buying it.

@roc, be careful about putting up links, or telling where there is an item for sale, especially it if is a bargain.
There are some people that will snatch it from you just to resell or get it before you.
It is ok to say something like online, but that is it. Or just say a yard sale. That way no one knows where you are talking about.
This has happened to me,( just once though), then I learned.

Thanks for the replies, I am thinking of buying it. I am new to this and wanted to get a nice detector to get my feet wet. After doing some reading and research I am going with an ace 250 for my first. Saw that mine lab and thought it may be a great deal and I should hop on it?! I will not post links anymore, thanks for the advice! My house was built in 1838 and I've always had interest in md'ing on my property, and I also have farms across from me around the same dates. Again thanks for the input and I will start a new post about what I find........or don't!

well the SE is priced at about half it's original cost.

the 250 isn't a bad detector to start out with I hear,
so good luck

I have the E-Trac, and reading the book by Andy Sabisch, the SE is very comparable. If it were me, for serious detecting, you cannot go wrong picking that up for the price.

I started with the ace250 and got bored with it. I wish I woukd saved my money and got the safari to start. I'm still learning it but it really isn't a hard to detector. Id save ur money, just my opinion from someone who has a 250.

The Ace is okay for a beginner as long as you don't pay retail. I had one, inaccurate ID and Depth indication. Very limited on ground penetration - check You Tube videos to back up what I just said. There's examples where it won't see a quarter at 4 1/2".

If you are looking at being just a hobbyist, maybe it's okay - though you will bore quickly and have less motivation to surf the turf.

If you are truly serious about this, then absolutely get a better one. You'd end up laying out more cash in just a few weeks for a good one.

for the low end (under 300) level might I recommend the delta 4000 at $279 * -- its has a 0 to 99 number display , is very light weight , uses only 1 9 volt battery --has a notch feature

Roc, I would buy the Minelab and be done with it. As posted, that is half price. I personally wouldn't buy the ace. There are way to many deals on Ebay, and Craigslist on Tesoros,Whites, Fishers. Garretts are great also, I just like the 150,250, and the Scorpian is basically identical to my Ground hog just made to look like the newer models.
