Craigslist site gives up oldest dog tag yet...1800's!!
Went and hit a couple of my Craigslist properties yesterday that I hadn't been to since getting my new detector....spent a total of about 2.5 hours, and came away with some cool stuff...My first find was a complete half of a harmonica reed...tried to find the other half, but no luck...maybe later today....Next I dug this plastic X necklace...it even still had the string with it...did a little research and found out it was a prize in Cracker Jack from the 50's! Other finds include a bottle opener (this is my 3 one like this in the last 3 weeks)...a brass or copper name tag holder, or something for a display, or drawer...I also found another door plate, some type of latch that still swings freely...part of a decorative trim piece, a small perfume bottle, half of a compact (my second from this site), and my most exciting find of the day, an old dog tax tag! This is only my third dog tag found this year, but this is BY FAR THE OLDEST!! This has a date of 1883. or 1889, it is hard to make out, but is still over 100 years old! The back has some faint writing on it that reads Dallas Engraving Co Dallas Texas....I didn't know they even had tags for dogs that long ago...I am gonna head back to these sites today and poke around a little more...
As always, thanks for stopping by and taking a look.
