Dug this across from the shop yesterday on a little walk about.

I think you're right on the shaker idea. The short shaft has a hole near the end probably for a cotter pin? Threshers had a device somewhat like that would shake a screen or tray to seperate the grain from the straw. Other farm machines used the same method. It would be hard to pin down?

It came out of an area where a steel rim for a wagon wheel was also. Implement bone yard of the farm .
