I to am so dying to go there.. I would have a ball, getting all dirty and digging, that stuff is right up my alley.. will be interesting to see what others post.

I'm thinking about doing it......not sure yet.....kinda a drive =P

OK, Here's what I learned after busting my butt sifting all day long there.
If you notice when you come into the dig site, look to the left, you will see where the guys have been digging deep.
I have been told that at a certain depth is where the diamonds rest until a good rain or when they plow.
You've got to get dirty there.
Try to go after a good storm or when it's dry so the holes aren't filled with water.
It's a fact, there are some real nice stones to be found there.

Oh, did I mention?

We didn't find one. :)

There was a huge find in the last few weeks there that got a lot of media attention. Try googling it....it was a huge diamond.

I've been twice, both times I searched for three days. And nope, I didn't find one, either. The first visit I walked over a half carat tea colored diamond that the woman behind me picked up. (Dangit!) The second time four diamonds were found while I was there. They blow a horn when one is found. Basically, you can either walk along looking for one after the rains, or you can dig. Either one is a numbers game. The more material you move, the better your chances. I have been trying to get back there for years, but it never seems to work out. I keep trying to strategize as to the method that would give me the best chances of finding one, but when I get there you are faced with the reality that it is just going to be hard physical work. What has occured to me however, is that the Little Missouri River is immediately south of the Park. Perhaps the glaciers during the ice age carried some diamonds into the river. Did the glaciers advance that far south? I would love to dredge it. Surely this has occured to someone else. Its funny you posted this week, I was planning to go there this next week but instead, I had to replace the heat pump in my house. Oh, well, I'll just keep dreaming...

I been there twice. The first time we kinda scratched around, the second time we got outfitted with some equipment. They used to have a travelling show that came to the state fair in Oklahoma and I dug there too. One thing that helps is to know what a diamond in the wild actually looks like. I can't tell you much about that cause we didn't find one. It was fun, but very muddy.

Been there several times, but only got lucky once. I still wear that rock to this day :headbang:
