Hi all,

While I’m not overly optimistic of this being anything Dino-related, nor am I even thinking it’s fossilized to begin with, I am fairly new to fossil hunting and could use your opinion.

This was found in northern New Jersey in a small brook/creek. It is known for producing Cretaceous period fossils, mainly sharks teeth. It has been known to drop out Dino fossils as well. There are tall cliffs on either side with a formation that holds these fossils.

I cannot figure this claw out. Maybe it’s not even a claw? What are everyone’s thoughts on this? Is it even fossilized yet?

I’m happy to take more photos if you’d need me to.

As always, thanks for your help.

Beaver teeth are flat like chisels, not pointed like the OPs pic. That looks more like a boars tusk to me. Gary

It's a boars' tusk, and not more than possibly a couple hundred years old if that.

You guys ARE GOOD! It’s definitely one of those two animals. It’s still cool so I’ll hang on to it! It’s so funny in this creek - you either find a beavers tooth or a dinosaur tooth lol

Take it from an old trapper...I know beaver teeth, and that's no beaver tooth.

If not a feral hog tusk, the only other possibility I would consider would be a claw
from a black bear.

Actually, you're right. That's not a tusk. It does seriously resemble some Brown Bear claws I have.
