Found this in my usual post CW through post WWI training grounds. You can imagine what it resembled before I brushed it off...a bit of a letdown.

Anyway, it's obvious it belonged to some sort of water or food container, as the clip releases the bottom part just slightly when pulled up and pulls it tight when clamped back down.

I researched the name and found that it's a food-related company.

I'm relying on the amazing knowledge I've seen here time and time again to hopefully pin this down to a specific product. Had an amazing hunt yesterday when I found this. Ten coins (my highest so far in one hunt), a tent rope tightener, some buttons, a "Shold-R-Form" brand Lieutenant pin insignia, and this lid-thingy.

As usual, any help is appreciated.

All I can find is that the company is still around and has been since 1706. Maybe try emailing them and sending a pic.

Here are a couple examples of that lid on the a glass jars /bottles. Yours looks to be a "No 28" too.

Pork Chutney Anyone.....Vintage English Crosse and by susantique

This old jar and lid are just so beautiful! I couldn't make out what the lid said due to the patina it's earned over the years, but I did a pencil rubbing and it says "Crosse & Blackwell....London" and then has some numbers and one or two other things I couldn't make out. The bottom is marked CBH, all intertwined. Not sure what the "H" stands for. Also has some numbers. Crosse and Blackwell has been canning and selling chutneys, pickles, mustards and other condiments and such for over a 100 years in England.

The lid is what makes this so completely unique! It has a tab pull that releases a metal band on the inside that seals it tightly within the neck of the jar.

Condition: Age earned wear to the metal lid, no chips or cracks to the glass jar. Charming waves and bubbles in the green glass.

Measures approx. 6 1\/2" high.

Crosse Blackwell Bottle No 28 with Unusual Tin Lid London | eBay

This is an unusual square bottle is in aqua with a tin top that is marked - Crosse & Blackwell Ltd. London, No. 28. The top has a hook and a small rectangular tab. It looks like it could be used to cut thread, the lid has no opening to the inside of the bottle. In very good condition and measures 4 7/8" tall. The lip is hand tooled,. A neat old English bottle.
