I call it obsessed/diseased. I have about 25ish years of detecting experience, & I never like to find something I can't ID. Therefore, I have spent ยฃยฃยฃs on a good library, talking to experts, book writers & Archies, plus internet research. So yes, I am self taught. I have been toying with the idea of teaching/coaching detector users, although I'm not sure there is any money in it.

Looks like you're waiting for the better fields. Same here. But you still have the older finds! :occasion14:

Those lead weights in the second picture, what exactly are they because we have found similar things in pipe shapes and round shapes and have thrown them out as junk.

We also get twisted up pieces of lead that look like lead straps, these seem to come up everywhere.

OK, I will let you into a secret. The best sites, have lots of lead.

Yeah, when you got 8 inch stiff stuble pretty hard to get near the dirt, and hard on the arm too.

I got about 2 pounds of lead today, it "was" a good site yesterday.

I forgot to answer your question;

The weight with the iron in it, is a Roman Steelyard Weight.
The circular one with a hole, is either a Roman or Medieval loom weight.
The other 2 cone types, are maybe very old fishing/net weights.

On good sites, you get every combination of small bits of lead, without lead you have no site/people nearby.

Nice going on another couple Saxon pieces and the other finds. Is the piece of lead with a post medieval hanging weight or a mashed up spindle whorl?

It could be a spindle whorl or loom weight, but its not defined enough to be either, so could be anything.

Nice, maybe I should hold on to the lead. I suppose people used a lot more lead than gold, you cant find everything you want.

Do these have any value?

I only hold the lead as scrap & yes lots of lead is worth scrapping.
