Crushed Gold, & "Praise The Lord"... :) (UPDATED)

Hello all,,,
Me, and my friend Gary, went out to another local park today and I found me some more gold :) It's an old looking ring with what looks like black onyx, and some other white material. I've never seen a symbol like it, if it even symbolizes anything?..

I can't tell if there are any marking on it, with it being so crushed, but it definitely looks to be the real deal. The small bands are all separate, it's not engraved to look that way...

Not sure what the small ( 7/8" x 7/8" ) plate that reads., "Praise The Lord" is, but it looks to have been attached to something from the back. Also found my first heel plate. I though that what a nice surprise coming out a city park. the little key is just a cheap charm, but I like finding stuff like that...

Here's a pic of the hole with the ring in it, and all the other stuff found today, including $1.46 in clad...

If anyone could possibly give an estimate of the rings age, I would really appreciate it... I hope your all enjoying your weekend.
Good luck, & Happy hunting~

Update:
Well, I'm not sure how I did it but I left out one of my favorite finds from this hunt. I had rinsed the piece off and laid it down to dry. Completely forgot about until late last night... :P

It seem to be an old money clip?, in the shape of a horse shoe, or it simply fastens to a belt, just for luck It reads, " 1914 - 25th ANIVERSARY - 1939 / KAY JEWELRY CO / I will bring you good luck / as long as you carry me" I believe, Kay Jewelers is a local jewelry store here in town and they are still in business today. It measures: 1-3/4" x 1-1/2"...

Crushed gold is still gold, congrats!!

Leon,

I don't have a clue about the 'symbol' on the ring, but the ring itself looks to me like it could be gold filled wire sculpture. I've done quite a lot of this.
Check this link and scroll down to wire jewelry idea #50. You'll see what I mean...

Great finds!
The ring design and stone design looks art deco to me.
Maybe a knockoff, but if it is it's well done.

Thanks all...

Thank you again Ashleen,,, it looks like you've nailed it... After seeing your reply I went a head and cleaned it up a bit and was able to straighten it quite easily. The wire seems very easy to manipulate...

Nice finds, but what caught my eye is the apparent Heel Plate you found. Now, I do not have any good reference material on dating heel plates but most of that size were popular duringthe Civil War era, so possibly you can get a general idea on what the age might be of the artifacts found and come up with a good age "guesstimate" of the site.

Personally,I like the heel plate, which is a great display item.

Thanks for the info Don...
The park it came from is one of the oldest here in town, but I don't have any info on just how old it is. A lot of the park has been re-worked, and filled, but there are still a lot of areas with some nice old black dirt.

Great stuff, Leon! My favorite is the heel plate...for some reason, I love those. :)

Nice gold find...very interesting. 8)

Those are some very unique finds-can you show us what the ring looks like now that you've straightened it?

Re: Crushed Gold, & "Praise The Lord"... :) (UPDATED)

Great finds Leon! Nice heel plate. The ring reminds me of a Celtic style ring or at least Celtic metal work, surely a replica but it does look 2000 years old believe it or not. The Celts did a lot of metal weaving. Try a search on Celtic jewelry. Or it could be just a fancy wire worked ring. If you dare to try and straighten it, gold would not break so easily however, brass will break easily. Good luck figuring it out and HH, Mike

Thanks for the info Mike,,, I thought the piece looked old when I seen it, but it is very light weight, and I believe Ashleen has probably hit the nail on the head with this one...

I hope everyones month is going as good as mine,, I'm have a very good month thus far...
Good luck, & Happy hunting~

Re: Crushed Gold, & "Praise The Lord"... :) (UPDATED)

Nice finds Leon! Ashleen is right, it is a wire wrapped ring. I also make wire wrapped jewelry and usually use 14 K gold-filled wire.
