I headed out yesterday with a mission to grid small areas. I chose a 20' x 20' area I recovered a Revolutionary War era stirrup recently, and dug everything. Well I got three good recoveries and two crusty coppers. I knew by the readout that they were British (12-41 for the KG1 and 12-39 for the KG2) but also knew they were badly leeched from 250 years in bad dirt

The weight of the KG2 is much lighter and I'm positive it's a counterfeit.

Well you can't choose your targets nor the condition but alas that's what keeps us coming back.

And what I think may be a Fleur de Lis saddle adornment with an obvious federal design. Civ?

Enjoy the New Year everyone

That's a scout pin from the early-mid 1900s, nice find! Conrgats on those two nice coppers. :)

ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1451484290.950657.webp yep, it would have been helpful if I had cleaned it before posting but Pat. Date 1914. It didn't look that old so I was thinking civ or newer. Thx for the ID

It's very true, you can't control the condition, but what you have more control over is putting yourself in places to consistently make old finds, and when you do that over and over and over, eventually a good one pops out.

Steve,

A few oldies for your efforts.

Regards + HH

Bill

The coppers may be crusty, but they're old, and if silver pops up, it should be old too

Danged Scrappy, you're still killing it! You're becoming my hero!

The Boy Scout emblem is still a good find, & it may have some value-check ebay. Great job with the coins too!

Congrats on digging those crusty keepers Steve. I also agree about that other find being BSA related. Looking forward to your future posts.

They are crusty, but at least you can tell the bust direction! Smooth crusty coppers are the worst... there is 10 seconds of excitement when you see the green disk in the dirt, then a total let down when you realize you cant even tell what it was. ha So I'm always happy to at least see a bust on them. Awesome job digging all those signals in a small area. Its crazy whats down there that gets missed.

Nice hunt there Steve...keep at it, something awesome will show up.

That's very true IP. It's just a numbers game and I've found my share of nice British Copper. The numbers game I want to play is for colonial British Silver. Like that W3 you just found...

Absolutely Steve. As a small cent signal hitting hard at 6-7", I can't say that the thought of a 1-reale didn't cross my mind with these;)

Merry New Year!

It is a numbers game, but there is one condition, and that is you can't pick what your best finds are going to be, they have to happen. I will admit I do have a want list, but it's basically all things that have been dug on hunts I've been 0n, and quite honestly feel I probably should have dug one by now considering all the sites I've hunted and targets I've dug. I guess in a way it makes it a little more exciting to want to find something and actually do it, but I would never hold my breath waiting for it to happen. It's like an old friend of mine who bought 2 birds... one died in two weeks, the other lasted 11 years. In my first year detecting a friend found a Merc dime and took me almost 10 years before I got one. Detecting is really funny that way, but that's part of what makes it great. Now i'm off to do snow... 2nd time for the Winter and I'm sure many to go!

Great save on the early KG II's Steve, you found them and saved them for all of us to now enjoy! :occasion14:

The Boy Scout pin is a cool find too, very early!
