If you don't mind me asking how much did you pay for the lot?

It's a beauty! Congrats on the purchase.
Who is the seller of DixieRelics?

I'm really wary of buying any CW artifacts off ebay. There is a whole website with fake buckles etc. that have been sold...

Thanks, Yes it was. I'm super stoked about owning this. My chances of ever digging one is really dim. This one really appealed to me because I like the green patina of Virginia relics.

I know what your talking about, it is pretty sketchy. When you google image search them more pics of fakes come up then real ones and most of them are on ebay. I do have a 14 day return option on this beauty and DixieRelics is a top seller...

I have no idea about the authenticity, but never like that bluish-green color (many chemical fake patina look similar), and it appears it could be two mixed and matched pieces... maybe dug at the same site, but strange the color would be that different. If that's the case (different pieces matched) it would certainly drop the value because you're basically just buying the tongue plus whatever value the other peice adds as a single artifcat. Maybe it does not bother you, but it would bother me because for that type of money I want the buckle as created.

Are you looking at the right picture, and have you priced these lately? I haven't seen many dug 2 pieces that the patina and form match so well.
Thanks for looking though.

Looking again and clicking the pic I see that both colors actually show up a little on the opposite side so feel much better about it. The first time I looked it seems like it was blue vs green.

That's a 'married' piece. The patina is way too far off. Have you touched that nice green patina to your tongue? I hope it doesn't taste salty. If so, chemical induced patina which is a big red flag.

That patina is not all that unusual for the area from which it was reportedly dug.

Do not think we even need to be discussing the authenticity of of another members relics. If he is comfortable about the purchase and has done his research on the seller etc. he is the only one that needs to be satisfied. Looks great to me and congrats.:icon_thumleft:

A little example of patina from this part of the country.

Nice, very nice!:icon_thumright:

There are so many variables that could affect the patina but I must say... they are some SHARP relics and congrats and keep them safe!

I haven't even got it yet. The lick test sounds interesting but I plan on getting a professional opinion as soon as I get it. I have 14 days to return it. If it's a married piece it's not really a issue for me.

I think you did great. Looks cool and is framed nicely. Just enjoy it...
