I wouldn't let anyone get you down about authenticity. I collect antique engravings and have bought a few on ebay. Yes, there is an enormous amount of fake everything sold on ebay, but if you have done your homework AND YOU are satisfied, that's all that matters. I have a friend who also collects antique engravings and frequently gives me grief about my purchases from ebay and the pieces supposed authenticity...until I came home with the documentation from the fine art library showing the exact edition, date and number of my "fake" Rembrandt etching, which he now expects me to sell to him on the cheap cause that's how I got it. Enjoy your find and let the naysayers do without.

I was thinking it was part of a rifle, but I'm not really sure. I have another one I dug in Maryland that's a little bigger.

Nice. I am pretty sure they match. If you look at the back in the upper left corner where the wreath and buckle meet. They both seem to both have the same off curve up in the corner. Be a nice item to have in your collection. I would love to find one.
Enjoy

The patina on the buckle does NOT look artificial. To me it looks genuine. Fakers want the patina to look old old old, this one only looks old old. Definitly sat in the ground. I would say 100% authentic just from my little expierence, however don't use my determination, as I am by far no expert.

Nice find! :icon_thumright:

Shoot! For the right price I'll take you to the excact spot where I found my two CSA's and you can have a chance to find your Own!-

BTW, there is a guy in Winchester that would be happy to authenticate that. I take all my stuff to him. Go to RELICMAN.com

That's not out of the question. I've made that offer to few relic hunters, selling off their collection to make ends meet. As soon as I get a new employee trained I'm headed to Alabama to do that very thing at a confederate hut site.
How's does 40% of the value of the relics i find sound?

I'll keep that in mind. Right now I've got a guy only a few miles from my shop, and 1 of the guys in our local club is a dealer.

Here's another little gem I got off eBay today.

Nice coin fob! Got the key and all!

I have heard the battle of Ebay can get real ugly, but it looks like you came out on top! :laughing7: That is a great looking buckle and I am glad you posted it to share your excitement of such a great piece of history. I like to see these relics out on display for everyone to see and to learn about. Thanks :icon_thumright:

I really hope you are joking. This sounds like old "BOOM-BABY" thinking.

I bet there's a whole lot of people who travel to the UK who would disagree. Many people can't get on great sites for various reasons and if they have the money to buy their way on, why not do it. Back when I started detecting, and my friends and I were in full out addiction mode, we talked about how great it would be buying certain property just to be able to hunt it. If we could have just paid $100 to do it that's a whole lot easier!

I don't understand. It sounds like you're insulting my methods of acquiring places to hunt. There's been some pretty negative post to this thread and I just kinda shook them off, but this I really don't get. Why would you say something like that?
Do you disagree with group hunts like DIV where they lease the land and charge relic hunters 2 or 300$ for a weekend of relic hunting?
Do you not like the idea of me paying a out of work relic hunter so he doesn't have to sell off his collection?
Please in lighten me as to what bothers you so much , that you would insult me in this public forum on my thread.

That's what I thought about the same curve. I wouldn't care if it was a married set , but I don't think it is.
