Hi All,
New to forum here just wanted to post by far my best find since I started detecting 3 years ago.I had a really nice 12-47 reading from my Ctx under one of the trees on my property, which I have found a few nice relics before, but its a bit iron filled. It was 10" down, popped this large dirt encrusted copper, which I placed in my finds pouch and continued detecting for about another hour before callin it a day.Got in the house, ran this coin under the water and saw this large cent with a 7 over a 6 at the end.Looked it up in a couple of books and it appears to be a pretty rare type.Im pretty stunned,Im looking into getting it graded. Give me your opinions on this coin,as to what you think it may grade ect....Thanks All!! HH CTX Tom

What a beauty. It looks like the blunt version. The pointed version is worth thousands.

Welcome aboard Tom.
A great find for sure......................................:icon_thumright:

It is blunt "1" which is the better coin.

No point making grading companies rich, they will say enviromental damage, keep your money, it's a good VF.

SUPER COIN.

BANNER FIND !

and in your "own" (?) yard no less, how much luck can someone have.

I believe Ground Inspector has it reversed. The OP's coin IS the rare one that is worth thousands! It has a blunt "1" that nearly touches the curl. Sheldon 272. The very common one is Sheldon 273, which has a pointed "1" distant from the curl. Here is an example of Sheldon 272 in lower grade that sold for $3500.

Stack's - 1807/6 S.272. Small 7 over 6 (R-4+) - The Americana Sale - U. S. Large Cents - U. S. Draped Bust Large Cents

That is a real beauty! Congrats on finding such a rare Large Cent in such nice shape.

I see nothing wrong with it, he's here to share a good find. There's 100 diggers who don't post on Tnet for every one that does.

I'm glad he posted it.
