Curios Spectators & Opportunist Criminals

Perhaps such a thread already exist, not sure as I am new and have not had the time to read every last thread.

I was just wondering if anyone here has had their take with Curios Spectators or Criminals looking for an easy target.

In hunting I guess we all have the curios folks who just want to know. However in some parts in Germany or Luxembourg I use a ground penetrating radar system when needed. Using that people get so Hollywood and always want to know what it is and what your doing.

I had a bloke one day just convinced I was a police officer "Like CSI" he said, and that I was searching for a mass grave site.

I just find it funny what people ask or expect at times.

On to the topic of criminals, I always have attempted muggings in Spain or Italy. Never from a host country national, no it is always from some foreigner like my self.

What is it with these people, they think we are just some weakling person who will fall on them selves at the sight of a weapon or poor attempt to take my property.

I look far from a push over, in fact I look like the big white power guy who just served a dime in the poky. A priest would not give me the greeting of the day based on my looks. But thieves always find it so healthy to attempt to rob me.

Has anyone else out there had these issues?

That is so wild..... I guess I am lucky to live where I do. Many people stay armed and we have ALMOST no armed robberies etc. It is truly not from a fear it will happen as much as a way to keep order and let the criminal element know they will not be tolerated. Would hate to be in a place where I truly felt that that kind of a threat was apt to happen. I would LOVE to see those parts of the world but it would be hard for me to be comfortable or live there. I do not want to come across as I am in a perfect world....just different mindset. We had a pretty rough hit from a tornado a year ago last May. The media made a big issue that the townfolk stood armed guard during the clean up but we had NO looting etc.

I have to admit that I have had more than one person decide that I should be their target. The most recent was two young men at an ATM who decided I should be kind enough to hand over everything on me to them. As the knight in Indiana Jones said "He chose poorly...." or in this case, they chose poorly. When police arrived they immediately called for "a bus" as both of these poor choosers needed medical attention before being taken to the station. As you can probably tell, I don't have a problem with self defence....LOL.

I was out twice in the last week. Both times someone came up, "Sir, Have you found anything." and "Sir, what is the best thing you have found." So, I politely engage in conversation for a few minutes then keep going. All the while thinking they made me feel old with that Sir comment.
