CUT MASS SILVER & 1699 COB & CUT 1717 2R & 2 BIT BOSSES & MORE!

Cross...
I want to add to this thread that these photos are the "textbook" photo quality in my opinion...
I am curious to your camera (type)... it resolution (mp) settings etc.
Your photos of your finds are as good as the actual finds heh.
Your threads and the manner in which they appear/ load etc.
needs to be contagious here in my opinion.
Banner.

Those finds are incredible, those bridal bits are really cool, and the cobb is just insane! I'm only in this hobby a little over 2 1/2 years and I could never imagine finding one of those cobbs! Im sure the feeling is indescribable, I know when I found my 1794 1/2 reale I just looked at it for a while, speechless. Had I found a Cobb or schilling I'm sure I'd go insane

Congrats on a great hunt
keep hammering that place

Wow what a killer spot you have there, congratulations!

That was a great session Cross Potent. Looks like you're on a great site. Got the same type of silver cufflink myself. Keep digging

Moving slow this morning. Not long after posting last night my boy came down with a stomach virus. Ugh. Up through the night taking care of him as "it" was coming out of both ends.

I have never seen the above turn up in the US. These clothes hooks are squarely 16-17th C (forget the range on the link) & have been recorded in context.
You have lots of great finds, but that one surprises me. We use it as a base indicator for possible nearby hammered coins!

And the news gets better and better. I have a buddy here in Maine that found a tiny cut piece of a Queen Elizabeth hammered coin. These sites in the US are extremely hard to find and sometimes done by accident as the recorded history is spotty at best when you get back that early. Great info Cru

Wow. Very well done. Those silvers are just killer! GL&HH.

Great finds! Any idea what the heart shaped copper relics are in your second picture. Found a few myself last week.

These are leather ornamental attachments/ mounts. I think they were tinned to shine back in the day and were a sort of "bling". This place has produced at least 10 so far.

I can read this thread over and over again. So many exciting recoveries, congrats CP. Nomination sent.

Ok my boy is feeling better now. :hello2:

This was a day I wont soon forget. My day was a winner after the cob in the 1st 15 minutes and I would have been satisfied with it alone. Everything thereafter was just an extension of a relic hunters dream hunt. I only have one other older site that was better but that was a full 20 years ago. Also on the bank of another local river.

Nice selection of finds. Really good going for a site in the U.S. The finds remind me of the kind of sites I hunt here in the U.K except for the coinage of course. The large blue and white pottery sherd is late 17th early 18th century Westerwald stoneware from Germany probably a storage pot or chamberpot.
Keep going at that site your sure to find more interesting relics in amongst the iron infestation. Would be nice to see some Georgian silver come up.

George.

Sweet Jesus, what great finds.

What an outstanding day. Banner day for sure, buddy. You don't have days like that too often if ever!

What can I say that hasn't already been said about those great finds. I particularly like the spoon, brass tack ornaments and the bit with attached boss. That clothes hook is fantastic, just another one of those everyday utilitarian items that I love to find and for me would be a centerpiece. But the show stealer and Banner are the hammered silvers. I bet anybody would be hard pressed to wipe that smile off your face anytime soon.

Just one hell of a nice hunt! Hope you get out soon to reclaim the items that you lost. That cold front came on us pretty quick on the south side yesterday, hope clears out even faster.

Go back and use your detector...
to find your pinpointer... heh

I bought one of those red water resistant covers from the UK so the good news is it should be ok out in the weather. And easy to see.

CROSS... heh
did you see what I wrote earlier about pics etc ?

I can't imagine these finds not making Banner ! What an amazing day out , incredible variety - super early relics and coins ,
got my vote.
