CW Cadet Button 'Western Military Institute' KY. NICE

Hi all,
Got my first Confederate CW Button today :hello2:
( I think I can call this Confederate )
There's some conflicting web info, OH/KY :icon_scratch:
Tice Says:
Western Military Institute, Drennon Springs KY.
love the part: 'While not at all common...'
How it got up here is a mystery :icon_scratch:
Never would have found this without the Joey coil,
this beach is an 'Iron Patch' :laughing7:
Thanks for looking and HH everyone

Re: CW Cadet Button 'Western Military Institute' KY. NICE

First post I've look at this morning, that's an awesome find! :hello2:

Re: CW Cadet Button 'Western Military Institute' KY. NICE

Thats just incredible to be found there..Some KY hunters will spend their whole lives in pursuit of any period KY button, cadet or state militia. A lot of them will never find one, and of all places you snag one on that beach :laughing9: :laughing9: First one Ive ever seen posted in my 4 years of diggin :o

Great button! How did it survive in the rocks without being crushed, wow. HH
Hi MKnTenn,
I often skip over a lot of the responses too

"Most of these rocky beaches have sand or clay underneath, the deeper the finds,
the better the condition.
I always try to dig a wide hole & I got a patented 'Flip' method for my plug"
:laughing7: it works well , flipper ::) . :icon_scratch: That Ky cadet button is one sweet find Herb :hello2:

Re: CW Cadet Button 'Western Military Institute' KY. NICE

Thanks All!
Flipping: Move all surface rocks, for deep signals, bury full size spade to the hilt about 6" from pinpoint, gently lever up, while pushing further in & under, then rotate spade with sideways spreading motion.
If you're lucky, the item will come out unscathed.
if not you'll get a ding like my Ducat find, (actually that coin came out while digging another signal :icon_sunny: )
The hole shown was not where the button was, just an example from the site showing conditions there, rocks on top, coarse sand beneath.
I have not been able to find this button for sale,
just a toasted cuff with no shank ($150) :icon_scratch:
Anyone seen one on the market ?
Thanks all! HH

Re: CW Cadet Button 'Western Military Institute' KY. NICE

AWESOME Button MR Steelhead

Not that I would know personally, but from what the others are saying..."seen 1 in 4 years".

Double lucky bonus, being a rare find , and not toasted.

Re: CW Cadet Button 'Western Military Institute' KY. NICE

Wow Herbie ! A rebel button in New hampshire ! A war souvenier perhaps or :dontknow: Who knows?? But an excellent find in excellent condition ! Congrads ! M.R.

Re: CW Cadet Button 'Western Military Institute' KY. NICE

Thanks All ;D
Strangely, I bought a jar of buttons at a yard sale few years back really close to where I dug this, (and many other CW era Finds).
Mixed in with the various grandma buttons were several pristine NH CWs and some local commemorative pins. (Revolution centennials) Maybe great great Grandpappas collection tossed in with the other buttons, & others discarded in the water....

Re: CW Cadet Button 'Western Military Institute' KY. NICE

That's a heck of a nice button.

thanks Buckle ;D
this may be the first relic I will sell....
I would use the proceeds to add all the NE state buttons to my collection.
(with 31 NH buttons, I need some variety in the display )
HH All
