Awesome finds, Deadhead! I found a brass item that is very similar to the one in the photo below the (great!) toy cannon. I have enclosed a few pix in hopes that you or other T-netters can help identify these items for us. Happy Hunting and hit that site hard. Sub 8-)

Those relics span lots of years! Nice stuff!
Sub.. that item you posted is part of an old surface mounted door rim lock.

Big Thanks Creskol! Slider inside of a Mortise lock for Victorian era doors. Very Cool and now Deadhead has one too. I so appreciate the knowledge and experience of our members here on T-Net, I learn something every day. Sub

No .. not a mortise lock, but rather a surface mounted iron rim lock like the one shown below:

Great stuff. You have a nice Civil War shoulder scale piece in the mix there too.

Cheers,

Buck

Yeah, I've found one of those mechanisms from an old door before. My dad ID'd that for me from his experience in repairing the maltise types in our house. I've seen pictures of a sight piece for CW artillery that has a similar "divot" for the sight line.
Yeah JDug recently taught me about those shoulder scales. I've found them in the past, just never knew what they were.
The dirty button is a GS eagle.
Too bad the wreath doesn't fit the 1855 eagle tongue I found last yr - which is a bit smaller.

Awesome wreath!!What are you calling the 1855 Eagle tongue?

What is a maltise type lock? Never heard of them before. Thanks

Yup that's the tongue I found last year. Am I correct on that? Ill take pic of tongue now.

Maybe I'm wrong about "maltise." Not sure proper name. Lots of variants.

your tongue is a bit different(more rare as well)than the one I posted which is actually "common",it is said to be patterned after the 1841 Army, but there are several variants. It also dates to the mid 19th Century (Pre CW)That all being said........that smooth cast brass wreath could go too quite a few different tongues including some CS types

I'm real curious about that lead weight. Any ideas out there?

Thanks for the info Kuger

Thanks to Creskol for posting the pic of the door lock. I found the piece above the piece in question and had wonder what it went too. Now I know.
