Found today only 2 inches down. Hoping this is original and not a replica. Apparently if real they are very rare. Writing says Sic Semper Tyrannis with Virginia underneath. Extremely thin brass.

Does look like a genuine Virginia State Militia buckle - The Virginia seal rectangle buckle was a pre-war / early war issued buckle that was designed for use on webbing belts then popular in use by Virginia state militia forces. Very cool find!! Congrats!

So far everyone on a civil war Facebook site believes it is an authentic Confederate plate which is super rare.

Thanks All. It has been confirmed authentic. Extremely excited. It was found in an area pretty far away from CW action but was at an old house site so you just never know!!
