Hey Guys,
I'm seriously considering a good water machine. I live on the Maine coast and feel like I'm missing out on a lot of great hunting ground. I've got a T2 SE and love it for the land, but it's simply not much good near the ocean. I have no issue spending the money on a great water machine. I bought the T2 SE because I think the F75 and T2 are a couple of the best land machines out there. My gf actually bought it for me so it was between those 2. I'd love to hear some feedback from the CZ-21 users and it's much appreciated . If anyone had any other recommendations please let me know. Thank you all in advance, Abe

Ahab8. I'm not a CZ guy but just look at Caspers finds and enough said! CZ or Excal would be my choices either one would be a great machine. The CZ is tougher built is what I've always heard, but may be a beast if not out in the water and only wet sand hunting. Chest mounted the CZ would be fine either way. The Excal on a rear mount straight shaft is has absolutely perfect balance for wet sand hunting and water hunting.

I agree with Fletch, just look at Caspers finds, and posts. If your not actually going "in" the water there are other CZs, like the current CZ3D same capability, about 40% lighter / cheaper, and has a meter. I just got one for myself, as truthfully I think the ocean here is just too cold for me anyway (and most swimmers too). I'm going to give it a salt beach test this friday. I'll definitely make a post then with my personal honest unbiased opinion.

Just my observations of CZ vs EXCAL
Note, never owner or played with an EXCAL, just watched a few videos, so no offence anyone.

CZ is cheaper, 3 distinct tones (much like your machine you use now), much easier to pin point, just watch videos on both, and you can make up your own mind on that. There seems to be many EXCALS for sale on the used market, no so for the CZ, that speaks volumes to me. For myself anyway, there is only one choice there.

What I know of the CZ3D (not water proof) so far is this, there is no loss of depth in disc mode from AT mode. Although no digital screen the meter accurately knows nickles as coins, and puts pull tabs in the pull tab section, I tried three different smallisgh gold rings, it did not ID them as pull tab. I was impressed by that alone. For comparrison my digital machine puts most nickles, and pull tabs at the same #57. Not that that matters that much, but is interesting.

Thanks Rick, I've actually been looking at used 3D's. Very reasonable. I always use 2+ or 3 tones so that should make for an easy transition.
You're right about the water being so damn cold but I will have to decide if I'm as tough as I used to be. Going on a cruise in May and prob won't get one til I get back so I've got a bit of time to decide

Abe, others gave good advice on the CZ-21 and Excal. I use the CZ-20, an older model as the only update on the 21 is a metal pinpoint button. It has 3 tones and a overload blast for larger targets close to the coil. You can choose to only dig Mid Tones which are gold rings, nickels, and pull tabs. Let the newbies scoop the coins and waste time while your swinging for gold. I chest mount the CZ-20 as Fisher sells a chest mount harness still. Batteries last a long time. The only other waterproof saltwater detectors are the PI's like the Sand Shark.

Thank you Sandman! It sounds like the machine pinpoints very well without a real need for an actual pinpoint button. Maybe I should consider a 20 as an option as well. I think I'm def going to go with a Fisher machine. A guy here in Maine that I know is going to be selling Teknetics and Fisher machines starting in April and giving decent discounts to forum members on the Maine metal Detecting site. That'll give me some time to figure it out (And convince my gf that it's a great investment ) She bought me my T2 SE last year as a bday gift so maybe she wants to buy me a CZ too. :-)

Another vote for CZ-21 or CZ-20 here. I hunt out on the LI Shore in NY and own the CZ-21. Only been hunting for a year with my CZ-21 and find it to be awesome in water and its also great on land. It hits just as deep in tot lots and local parks as my hunting buddy's Minelab. Have yet to find my first gold but have hit silver rings/coins along with plenty of clad. Definitely take Sandman's advice regarding either the chest or hip mount. The unit is built to last and is heavy, after several hours hunting you will definitely feel it. Not using a chest/hip mount will give you "Popeye" arms in no time! Only other caveat is that it loves to find the smallest pieces of iron possible in the deepest hole when hunting in all metal. I get amazed everytime I get an iffy signal, dig down 9/10 inches to find a portion of a nail or something smaller. Great machine. Good luck on whatever you end up choosing!
