CZ21 Ground Balance

Unable to get my new CZ21 to ground balance either way, according to the manual. I am in the Saint Petersburg area, so I want to hunt Saint Pete Beach, etc. Does anyone have the same problem, and if so, what adjustments have you made?

Sorry, I don't know the CZ line, but there are some members who do and they will respond.

Make sure you are not over a piece of metal. Use pinpoint mode to scan around for a quiet no-metal area and try to GB there. If it still doesn't work, tell me what you are hearing.

100% normal ground balance on land using either method in the manual. Dry sand, wet sand, or in the water, the tone never changes. I have tried in a lot of different places, making sure there is no metal around. Beginning to think the beaches are very low mineralization and that could be why

So it will GB on regular dirt but at the beach when you lower the coil it produces a response? Had you ever taken it to any beach before and it worked?

The CZ has 2 ground mechanisms. One is the usual adjustable GB for ferrite mineralization. The other is a fixed circuit that notches the salt response. It sounds like maybe that circuit is not calibrated properly.

Do you own a CZ21? It works 100% on land in Florida, but on the beach or in the saltwater, the sound does not change no matter what number it's turned to. The machine is new, so I don't think it's out of calibration at all. I'm going to try to just leave the ground control at 10 per the owner's manual for now

Yes, I have one. If it is only falsing in salt conditions then I still suspect the calibration is off. Some water is saltier than others though I would suspect St Pete is pretty average. I'll ask the factory how they calibrate for salt.

Saint Pete is pretty low on mineralization. I'm not saying its falusing either. It will 100% ground balance on land in either method, as per the owner's manual, but not at the saltwater beach. I have tried it at no less than 4 different beaches and a bunch of different spots just to be sure. I keep reading things that say to just leave the ground control at "10"

By falsing, I mean if you pump the coil over salt and the detector responds.

I have discovered that the machine is definitely defective. Only tried it 3 times since it was new, mostly because I've been living outside the US. In Disc, it only has one tone, no matter what I put under the coil. The control box has never been wet. I'm sure I'm going to have to pay because I'm now outside the 2-year warranty

Take it to local detector shop in Tampa call Meyers, ask him to grand balance, see what he says. He is about 30 miles from St Pete Beach, less if you are east of the beaches.

Before you send it in let me look into it from the factory side. If nothing else, maybe get it fixed for free. When and where did you buy it? PM me if preferred.

I think I have had it for 3 years, but it has always been the way it is now. Never has 3 tones and come to find out I was never able to ground balance it correctly. Meet a guy on a beach with a CZ 21 and listened to his and mine never sounded like his. Broken from the day I got it.
