We are releasing 44,854 cubic feet per second in this pic of Shasta Dam. The Sacramento River downstream from the dam is getting a little flooded but it's a "controlled" flood.
Nicer weather now but we are still releasing a lot of water. We have a lot of snow in the mountains so, when that starts to melt, we will need room for it in the lake. To give you an idea of the size of the dam, the 5 silver tubes or pipes (actually called penstocks) coming out of the dam and into the back of the powerplant are big enough to drive school buses through. Here's another pic from about the same place on a much nicer day.
Nice pictures, when we lived in Enterprise I can remember water coming over the top of the spillways, now that was some kind of site. My wife father worked on the construction of the dam, and part of my mother's family was one of chief engineers on the project. In fact, my brother in law son has the year book that shows pictures of the crews, and the progress on the construction. I always thought that Shasta Dam is one of the best looking dams around.
Bounty Hunter Pioneer 505, Teknetics Gamma 6000, DetectorPro PiratePro, Fisher F-75 LTD2, Berkut-5 (a russian detector) and a good ole original Garrett Propointer that is still going strong.
Those are pretty cool pictures PB. Much different that the dams that are connected to the locks that I push barges through. The water looks much cleaner too. Thanks for sharing them.
Great pics PB , so now comes the stupid question. You work there?, if so, take some more pics. The power of that water really comes through in the pictures, I want more .
I can try hammered but I don't go back in until Tuesday so they may cut the releases back by then. This site has a lot of info about the dam for anyone interested. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shasta_Dam
