Thought I would say what everyone was thinking...
Found these two relics on the grounds of my permission ( Holly Springs NC)
Original house was built sometime mid 1800' ( only thing left are some foundation stones, pieces of pottery and lots and lots of square head nails....)
1st is a Eastlake looking brass doorknob dug about 7" down. Pictures are a before and after brush off and cleaned up with some Renaissance wax.

Other piece was found close to old juniper tree about 4 or 5" down. Not sure if axe or hatchet. Looks like it was made by blacksmith so assuming fairly old

The head looks like it may be from a mortising axe. They were made in various lengths and widths. Possibly used by a cooper or furniture maker.

Record breaking temps all week in WV. AC unit been out since Tuesday morning being upgraded to a new heat pump. I hope to live through this and enjoy it one day. ugghh

Agreed about its being a mortising axe. Not sure of size, but looks big enough to be for timber framing of barns or houses.

Yup...the heat is pretty brutal. But what I really enjoy are the bugs....
