I went out this morning with high hopes (as usual) but when I got there the water looked like the Boston Tea Party. Brown looking. It was clear near shore but after the water got up to the knees you couldn't see the bottom. I took my mask and snorkle and was going to work with them this morning. No deal. I put them on but just couldn't see much at all so ended up hunting the way I usually do. I got several targets but almost all of them were junk. I did manage 3 dimes and 3 pennies along with nails, screws, bottle caps, pull tabs - well you get the picture - the usual junk. At least I did get to hunt in the water. To tell the truth I didn't go much past my waist because of how yucky it looked. I ended up going up on the beach and hunting there for a while. I found another one of those aluminum stakes that hold down towels or blankets. I'm getting a nice little collection of those. Also found part of a clothes pin. I did manage to find another hoop earring in the water. I thought it was silver but it turned out to be a cheapo. No markings inside at all. It does look pretty and shiney so it must have been a recent drop.

One other note here. This is the place where the old lady complained about me digging holes. Well, I understand why she was complaining now. Someone else obvisiously has been hunting in the water and they are trying to dig to China! I was walking along - minding my own business and BAM! I stepped into a huge hole and it was pretty near shore. It was like I stepped off a precipice! After that I stepped is several more but although they were big they were not near as deep as that first one I stepped in. It was a doozy!

My total take this morning.... 33 cents and a silver-looking hoop earring plus my junk. That's ok Tomorrow I am headed over to the East coast for that seminar at Satellite beach and WATCH OUT East coast hunters... MUMSZIE is coming and I'm going to find my gold ring! Maybe??????????? :o

Nice hunt Mumszie. Too bad about someone leaving holes. Could have been kids playing or even wave/rip actions. I know it wasn't me! Maybe your old woman got after whoever was doing it and scared them bad. That could explain the brown water ::) Anyway, you had a great time and thats what it's all about!

Nice hunt.  Those holes could have been, like HalfSpeed said, made by kids before the tide came in.   I have seen these type of holes before even further out.   There seems to be more of them when there is a lot of wave action or that the current is moving swiftly.  I might be wrong but I think they are a natural occurrence.  Sand is washed out of pockets, I don't know why some of the pockets are round.  I remember as a kid many years ago snorkeling and seeing those holes/pockets.  Of course they could also have been made by someone detecting but usually the sand and wave movement quickly covers them.  If it was some one digging to China then that's a different story.

I was walking at Clearwater from the parking lot to the water a couple of weeks ago.  Someone had built a sand castle with a mote that you could have parked a car in.  I didn't see it at first and almost fell in it.  A few minutes later the county guy passed by with the rake/sand mover machine and covered over someones stupidity.  Somebody could have fallen in it and really gotten hurt.

I'm glad to see you're out there enjoying it.

Take care.

I swear it wasn't me, I

leave all my holes at the river beach, the water movement fills them in in minutes.

Glad you were not hurt Mumszie, and glad you had some fun too.... keep that mask ready, the water will clear!
Shaka mikey
