Picked this up in DC area. It has a variety of stamps that are dated. Dates run from 1940-1957. Each date stamp is basically the same and has the following letter above and below the date:

E.M.Σ.
1957
Δ.X.

or

E.M.Σ.
1954
Y.X.

Shown with a standard thimble for scale. Greek letters make me wonder about fraternal etc.. Brass seems quite worn. Thickness is pretty robust, about as thick as two half dollars stacked. Anybody recognize this?

looks like the base to a ceremonial candlestick for the epsilon mu sigma sorority.

That seems a good guess. Thanks, creskol! I see that they are listed as a sorority in Chicago, but can't find much else.. There is another fraternal organization of the same name cleverly for E.M.S. volunteers, but they organized too recently.

The Δ.X. stands for the Delta Chi Fraternity. So there must be some sort of relationship between the Epsilon Mu Sigma sorority and the Delta Chi fraternity.

Could it be something that the sorority/fraternity competed for and the holder/winner of that year got to stamp the year/group that earned it?

I think the Delta Chi is the 'chapter' of the Epsilon Mu Sigma. I don't think Epsilon Mu Sigma was/is a registered Greek National sorority or fraternity. Interesting find, Breezie

If a candle fits snugly in it, it might be an individual's "bobeche" - slip it over candle, hold candle without getting dripped on. Nowadays a lot of people use paper plates, cups, disposable bobeches. Just a thought.

If fits perfectly over a candle, so Epsilon Mu Sigma sorority bobeche is about as good as this ID is likely to get. Thanks everyone. Green check.
