Looks like you had another great day in the field. I belie I know what you'll be doing on the days the ground is frozen. You'll be hand carving a pistol grip stock for that barrel.

Congrats CD. The pistol barrel is really sweet. But, I am wondering about that ring. It looks really old and appears to have stylized koi fish or perhaps dragons on it. I have not seen anything like it before. Perhaps someone will ID it.

veferrari down in the deus forum called it a mariners ring. My hunting partner has found them on old sites and says civil war or before . Maybe someone will chime in with some more info.

Very nice finds! Always nice to find a boot pistol barrel. I see you have a couple Hard White Pewter buttons. The one with the "football" and rays I have dug myself and it is in Tice's book where he discusses hard white pewter. The one below it also looks like hard white pewter. Here are more examples. See pattern group 1-12 and you will see your "football" button again:
