Hit the trotting park again today for a couple of hours. Rain set in and cut me short, but, I had a couple of good finds and some not so good. Nice thing was I haven't dug any aluminum. Shell casings and bullets galore, though. Found a 16d wheat and a horse buckle shield there yesterday.

The 1915 barber dime must have been lost when she was a young girl, still has a full LIBERTY. Only 2" down.

The suspender buckle after cleaning shows a star and moon with stars in the field surrounding. This is only the second hunt of the year for me but it's turning out well. Glad I used the winter for research. Here's the map that lead me to this spot, too. You can see the oval, and there's a school out front.

Thanks for looking.
Ken

LOL. Bill. That road is a different name now. That map is 1850's.

Great find! Careful with the cleaning of that barber. Might be a candidate for ultrasonic or nothing stronger than soap and water.

Nice Barber dime. Is the school still there or did you find the location from only the old map? Research is the name of the game.

School is gone. I saw about the track in an 1895 newspaper on micro film at the library, but gave up on finding the location and instead concentrated on looking for pinic groves, when I came across the oval in some platte maps, and remembered about the track. That's a good lesson. Sometimes you chase down a lead and give up and start looking for something else keeping in mind your other research and it turns up.

That's a very pretty coin. Nice work!

Nice Barbar Dime!

I've seen those oval tracks on some maps, what were they used for?

Horse trotting tracks. Back in the day more people raced trotting horses. There must have been enough interest that this guy built an oval. I could see all the old guys bringing their horses over on Saturday night and racing/practicing, and hopefully losing money and items on the ground. I've already found a gold filled ring also. I'm going to hit it again tomorrow. Haven't found the hot spot just yet.

There's a lot more to this story and about this track I'm not telling just yet, I want to make sure my research was correct.

Very nice find Kas. I found one of those symbols to on an old map. It was the original fairgrounds in this area.

Darn, I was just packing all my things lol, on a serious note it looks like you did some great research and it will pay off. Spend some time and work the area slow and you will be rewarded I am sure. Good Luck

Ken,
Great job on pinning down that spot. That Barber is fantastic!!! I always like finding those suspender clips too. Never saw one with that design until now.
Great hunt,

Great looking Barber :o

that's truly a beautiful coin - the best barber dime i ever found was one sitting on top of the ground at an old home demo site...
