I had to work hard for the hammered today but it was worth it. We have only had 3 hammered off this field in the last 2 years. Now we have found 3 in 3 days & only done a qrter of the area. :)

Coins:
1746 Farthing
Claudius Gothius II AD268-70
Elizabeth I Penny, second issue 1560-61 - 2 years after she was crowned - my earliest Lizzy penny ;D - Pretty good shape too

Medieval 'beehive' thimble
Medieval 13th century knife terminal - new type for us
Medieval part of an iron spur - first iron type
A mystery Lead object with copper pinheads decorating it. Might be a Medieval Trade Weight??

We probably won't get our 4th on day 5, but after he has drilled it flat & we switch to a larger coil I have a good feeling about something special at the top of the hill. 8) I'm not going to jinx myself by saying what it might be. ;)

Crusader,,,, you have done it again..... it seems like the fields are full of stuff over there? I would love to find that sort of stuff here in South Africa.
I like the farthing also.... in fact I am a fan of all British coins as there are so many different one's from over the years.... You are Blessed.

God bless
Peter

Only small areas of large fields or the odd field here & there are stuffed full. The rest are nearly empty. Finding the good areas takes time/luck/judgement. We are slowly sucking dry the areas we know. We need more areas as good as this. As in 5 years or so, we will have cleared most of it.

So you're up to 200 Romans between you both...how's that Hammered total for the year lookin? Bravo on some nice finds!

Regards,

Buckleboy

36 - This figure used to takes me years.

Not that I would ever even see a hammered coin in my
lifetime. But, What a rush it must be to unearth one
of those bad boys. What happens to them when you
find them (government, your private collection, museum,
auction)?? If I'm being too nosey just let me know.

If I need it, in the album. If its a repeat, then the farmer gets it.
